Staff Capabilities and Background
EPJ Consulting is led by Mr. Even P. Johansen and augmented with additional professional staff on an as needed basis.
Mr. Johansen comes from a family with long traditions in shipping. His grandfather sailed as Captain on the square riggers in the China to England trade in the late 1800 early 1900. His father was a shipbroker and director with Fearnley & Egers, Oslo, Norway. and head of the European Dry cargo division till his untimely death.
Johansen was born in Oslo Norway in 1945, after an education in Business Administration in Norway he embarked on an international career in shipping.
In 1966 he moved to England and joined F.Haberlin Ltd, an Agency/Brokerage company for the Mauritania Iron Ore export, then to Germany in 1967 to join Ahrenkiel and Bene in Hamburg expanding his dry cargo brokerage knowledge. In January 1968 he joined Stolt Nielsen Shipping, in Oslo, as a tanker broker.
Shortly thereafter in Sept 1968, he was moved to their Tokyo office to start a competitive brokerage division, along the lines of what was already established in Oslo. In 1971 he was transferred to the Stolt-Nielsen Office in Greenwich Ct to further develop the brokerage division with special mandate to handle the Stolt vessels in the market when not needed in their respective services.
He left Stolt Nielsen and started Odin Marine Inc in 1976 as an independent Ship Brokerage Company with special emphasis on the Latin American tanker trade. He was one of the pioneers in establishing a ship brokerage company in Greenwich, Connecticut, which have since become a major center for shipping companies in the US.
He directed Odin Marine Inc in a global expanding mode over the following years and establish offices/affiliates in Singapore in 1976, in Rotterdam in 1998, Seoul, Korea in 2000 and in Houston, TX in 2001 and Dubai in 2003.
He expanded the services of the Odin Group into Logistical services and established Odin Logistic in 1996.
All 6 affiliate offices on a global reach working as brokers and consultants to the world's larges multinational oil and chemical companies as well as National companies in South America and Caribbean.
Mr. Johansen has been a long time supporter of the Association of Shipbrokers and Agents (ASBA) with 8 years as a Director; He was President of this organization 2001/2002.
Mr. Johansen was a director of Worldscale Association (NYC) until his retirement from competitive brokerage in January 2005.
Mr. Johansen then reactivated Marine Consultants Corp with offices in Stamford in January 2005, to handle consultants requests from the transportation industry as well as the financial markets related to ocean transportation of bulk product.
Marine Consultants Corp changed name to EPJ Consulting Corp in 2006 with offices in Ocean Reef Plaza, Key Largo FL.
EPJ Consulting Corp have acted as consultant to new arrivals in the bio diesel market as well as for newly established traders in the fuel and chemical markets. For new arrivals in the small tanker chemical markets, and for small ship management company expanding their services into the chemical market. The Firm is also actively engaged and equity holders in patented hull design for fast ferry, offshore crew boats and short sea feeder service for the container trade in the US.
Mr. Johansen now lives in Ocean Reef Club, Key Largo FL with his wife Kazuko of 35 plus years. Together they cofounded a Japanese American Society of Fairfield County to foster a better understanding between short and long term Japanese residents of Fairfield County and the local population, and remain a director of Japan Society of Fairfield County. And was president of the Society for 5 years.
They have two Daughters, Erica and Nanami and two grand sons, Liam and Gavin, all living in Edwards, Colorado.
Mr. Johansen retain a home in Tokyo, Japan where he maintains his long term Japanese friends developed over the years since his first arrival in Japan in 1968.
Mr. Johansen have maintained his friends established over the years by his travels to all corners of the world with special emphasis on the Japanese and the South East Asian market.
Mr. Johansen is otherwise an active out doors man and enjoys golf, yachting, skiing, fishing and horseback riding
